Pain and Pleasure

Arizona Review
Greys Anatomy 14 x 03  “Go Big or Go Home”

We need to brace ourselves. I don’t think the hotness will stop.

Thank goodness for  Carina Deluca and her dazzling chemistry with Arizona Robbins, the pair is delivering the sexiness goods.

Much as we want to pay respects to Harper Avery for we saw him for the final time this ep;  Bailey was fired but this will be a secret forever;  Amelia has finally gathered her superhero support  team; Jolex are occupied with ‘hoco pro’,  Meredith has reunited with her shrink and is in a certain “mood,” I will zero in on Arizona and Carina and all the amusing repartee between them in 14x03.

Incidentally, pain and pleasure were the buzz words in this episode. Let’s see why…

Curative sex

April was overwhelmed by Arizona's raving during morning hospital hall talk. Arizona was all about a curative level of sex that she experienced with Carina the night before. The kind of sex that fixes things and relieves pain. So ecstatic was she, that April had to stop her from TMI. In layman’s terms, maybe we can guess it was  ‘mind blowing sex’?  Maybe? Too bad it happened off screen and we can only imagine, for now.

Seems like  Carina's study on how sexual stimulation can relieve pain is not just limited to patients but it applies to the bedroom as well. Arizona's low spirits seemed to have been "cured" by Carina's healing via sex. Memories of Eliza have been erased on a cellular level. In Arizona's mind, she was gone.

Even if they clocked in a limited number of minutes in this ep, even if they were not intimate scenes in the bedroom, those minutes produced sizzling sensuality.  The Arizona-Carina hotness did not cease.

Spotting the GSpot

Ben's patient had only been dilated 4cm when she had been in labor for 20 hours. They could not give her an epidural (it caused her low bp) nor oxytocin (love hormone) because  she's severely allergic to it. Her cervix was being too stubborn. Little did Ben know that consulting fetal genius Arizona and the new OBGYN Carina  (with the groundbreaking sexual stimulation study),  was the best thing he could have ever done.

Carina was proposing natural oxytocin because no one is allergic to that. Arizona thought this meant nipple stimulation, but nope. Carina meant stimulation down there.  As this talk went on, the spectators had these reactions: Andrew was embarrassed, Ben was bewildered and hesitant  and Richard Webber was curious.

Carina was practical as she questioned why let the body go through unnecessary pain and risk of complications,  when the body has its own built-in mechanism to speed up this process.

Carina wowed her audience of four with her perfect summation: "It isn’t a mistake that God put the G-spot in the birth canal"
"I’m only saying : what gets the baby in, also gets the baby out."

Arizona Robbins quickly refuted Carina's practical but unconventional method "it's just not how I do things."

Which Carina funnily refuted back, "Well she thought differently last night"
Hmm, so does this mean that in her doctoring practice, Arizona believes more in the scientific way of doing things? Was she medically conservative in the sense that she didn’t think that the natural stimulation process was the solution? So does it mean that in the bedroom, she is okay with natural stimulation??? Hold my beer. I’m laughing internally.

This was one of the funniest  scenes this ep with Carina's recommendation to induce labor by stimulating the woman’s most sensitive bundle of nerves.

Pain Can be Pleasurable

Arizona recommended a C-section but this was shot down by the patient because they did not want to take a risk, not especially using general anaesthesia. They wanted to do something else. Enter: Carina's solution. Don’t we just love it that Carina has the right answers nowadays? …

Carina had another chance to rub in that Arizona gave in to her suggestion and it was a delight to watch.

"So, you decided to use my technique?" I swear when she said this, she was totally checking out Arizona's um...back..

Arizona gave in to Carina's recommendation but didn’t want to admit it. She attributed it to the husband and patient's decision to get some alone time. She even  said that eventually, the patient will undergo a C-section.

This prompted Carina to candidly retort: “I don't understand why Americans are so prude, when you add pleasure to pain, pain can be pleasurable. In the bedroom some people even ask for pain.”

And you see Carina's hand land beside Arizona, on the table. Bravo to Greys, they are making this increasingly sensual.

I bet you could barely breathe during this scene. Carina can get  you excited every time, just as she does Arizona.

“A hair tug. ……a well-timed bite on the neck..”

I had assumed that Arizona was already too turned on by Carina’s slight  kink talk, the heat was radiating through the screen, you begin to wonder where this will lead to next,  until the patient's husband interrupted the hotness as he called for Arizona’s assistance. Dang.

Notes:

Did you notice that Carina has this naughty habit of making Arizona squirm with her smooth sensual advances in the 'very' appropriate places?  With Carina around, I suggest that Arizona  learn the skill of snapping out of sexual reverie and return to professional demeanor.

Contrary to the opening V.O. which says Doctors are not gods, well these two doctors are Goddesses.

Carina and Arizona are bringing on the heat  without even a bedroom scene. Will we see them have intimate sexy scenes in  the bedroom? I truly hope so. Problem is, with their extraordinary hotness, the TV might just burst into flames.

Enjoying this exciting pairing while it lasts. Admittedly, I’m having so much fun.

Love In the Time of MRI

Arizona Review

Grey's Anatomy  14x01  "Break Down the House"
14x02 "Get Off on the Pain"

Arizona's first words  at the first episode of Season 14 was: "She fired Eliza". As she confided to best buddy April in a hospital staff assembly headed by Bailey. She was worried and impatient. She wanted to talk with her girlfriend. She needed to know how much time she had to wait before she can talk to her girl about the shocking development.

But Eliza was G.O.N.E. No text, no notes. Seemed that after she was fired, she had not made contact which left Arizona worried. She wondered how much time she could still stand Eliza’s silence.

As the understanding girlfriend, i imagine she didn’t want to pressure Eliza into confiding in her.

Good thing April was there for the distraught Arizona. The Aprizona friendship is very much alive.  Arizona was just not ready for Eliza suddenly leaving. Of course, from last season finale's shocking termination of Eliza, we at least expected some tender loving consolation from the girlfriend.

We read Arizona's mind. We expected Eliza to let her help lick her wounds. Nope that didn’t sound dirty at all, Arizona. Turns out, Eliza just suddenly disappeared without notice. Her apartment / hotel had no trace of Eliza. Arizona was "ghosted."  It hurts to admit  but in simpler terms, she was abandoned by Eliza.

Teddy Altman the Calzona shipper is back

No one was more delighted to welcome Teddy Altman than Arizona Robbins who was too excited to see once again the top Callie & Arizona shipper this side of Grey Sloan.

At her dejected  stage, Arizona was more than relieved that Teddy suddenly popped up during lunchtime to say hi. It was cool that Teddy was back not just to comfort Owen, to be an advocate for Megan Hunt, but also to be a welcome comforting presence  for Arizona.

In less than one minute, she was able give Teddy a recap of  her love life adventures and misadventures: how Callie went to New York and took  Sofia and that she managed to find love again but then the person  got fired and she left too. Teddy was the sounding board she needed, "I’m so glad you’re here!"

Wait, why did she say Callie took Sofia? Lemme just correct that. Callie didn’t take Sofia. Arizona let her take Sofia to New York as a loving gesture to make Callie happy. Now that’s clear.

The Girl in a Bar

Isn’t it just cute that when Arizona tried to drown her sorrows by going to a bar and drinking alone, that someone hot approaches her and trades knowledge of what being ghosted means?

Arizona didn’t hide incredulity that she might just be the one who wasn’t even aware of such a term. For the kind of person that she is, it felt like she just could not bear the thought that humans were even capable of just leaving another person without notice at all, and at that moment, it seemed to be a common occurrence.

"When did this become something that people do to other people?"

Carina, didnt introduce herself to Arizona (their intros to each other happened off screen), labelled such people as 'unsensitive,' Prompting Arizona to correct her word selection. So the  flirting went on by way of correcting grammar.

Arizona’s Waiting While They're Talking Italian

There was a plot twist to this new entanglement  though. Surprise! Carina is Andrew DeLuca's sister!

It must have been an ordinary day and ordinary scenario in Arizona and Andrew's shared living space, where Andrew comes home catching Arizona having sexy time with a girl. Thing is, the woman involved was his sister Carina, and Andrew was not exactly happy about it.

The awkward situation was  hilarious and Andrew and Carina arguing in Italian until episode 2, with Arizona caught in the middle of the discussion,  clueless on what they were saying, was surely the funniest and most adorable scene of the premiere.

Maybe Andrew's shock led to his negative reaction but Carina could care less about Andrew's adamant concerns. She defended herself articulately in Italian and as soon as Andrew stormed off, she and Arizona sexily picked up where they left off.

Carina ‘s Cool Study

Funny how Arizona was surprised upon seeing Carina next day, having a meeting with Chief Bailey. Turns out she is an OBGYN. And she found out about it from Andrew DeLuca ,who, like us, realized that Aizona and Carina didn’t have much to talk about the night before. They were too busy, obviously.

So beneath the sexiness, Carina was in serious mode, proposing a uniquely interesting study of the body and the brain before, during and after orgasm.

She said that drug companies have discovered  that there's money to be made in the development of the equivalent of a female Viagra. She said she wanted to push her personal fascination in the role that sexual stimulation can play in pain control for women. In her cute Italian English, she wants to achieve both ends with the study, “two pigeons, one rock.”

In plain terms, her study will involve people to masturbate in MRI machines so that they can be observed as they orgasm. All of this in the name of science. The concept was a go. Chief Bailey was all for it. Ergo, this means we shall be seeing Dr Carina DeLuca at Grey Sloan for some time.

Arizona's new love interest is an OBGYN at Grey Sloan conducting a mighty interesting study and she isn’t just sexy. She has set her sights on a noble objective for science.

Notes

The big question in many people's minds right now is: why did Eliza just leave Arizona without notice?  High and dry? Did she not care about Arizona enough to just leave her hanging like this?

I know that Eliza has always been meant to be temporary and a transitional love interest,  but to see Arizona as despondent as she was, it was unfair. But then again, who are we to judge Eliza’s need for time and space after a personal tragedy.

Whatever her reasons were, I just hope she did give Arizona a heads up that she was leaving. I don’t like seeing Arizona in pain even if she was being funny about it.

It was refreshing to meet a character like Carina Deluca. Not only is she way too hot, she's got sexy brains that can study brains during sexy time.

I welcome this second woman to enter Arizona's life, post  New York-bound Callie.  She is the second ‘in-the-meantime’ person in Arizona’s life and she gives her own brain-brand of excitement.

That Carina is Andrew's sister, makes me expect a lot more hilarious scenes, especially in their shared home.

Most notable scene of the ep was when Arizona dropped by the MRI room and Carina showed her how orgasms affect the brain. Right from the time that Carina shut the door and stood behind Arizona, face close to Arizona’s, I could not stay still for this scene was oozing with hotness.

It was the first time that I have ever seen Arizona in such a sensual scene that no red blooded lesbian wouldn’t be fascinated by it.  And it wasn’t even a kissing scene.

Carina going for Arizona's ear and neck was just overwhelming. Kudos to this scene, we discovered a new person who has steaming hot chemistry with Arizona.

In a short span of time, Carina was able to make Arizona  happy again after her disappointment caused by Eliza's abandonment.

After being broken for a short amount of time, she is rebuilt.

This may mean that Arizona and Eliza's relationship was not too deep. And this is not at all surprising.

This may prove true with all the new women that Arizona will meet eventually before Callie returns.

She may have fun and may be sexually compatible with them, she may even get seriously attached to one or two, but I think all the women to come into her life will all be transitionary.

Not being biased here,   this is a wise guess, but we all know whom Arizona is meant to be with in future, so it is best to let her have all the fun she can with different women, different experiences. Let her embrace life's beauty and ugliness. Let her feel the fun, the pain of abandonment, the excitement of new relationships, what the heck, let her feel love in all its forms. Lengthy or short lived, it will all be okay.

All for the goal of being whole and realizing who she is really meant to be with in life.

It's a delight that EP Krista Vernoff has said that Greys will have more fun and lightness this season and I am so looking forward to see Arizona as the sunshiny, roller-blade girl from seasons past. Before the Season of Darkness-- season 9.

We miss that fun, happy Arizona and it is truly exciting to see her in that state again this season.

Looking forward to a lot of fun and hopefully some focus on her brilliance as a double certified surgeon. True that the premiere all but focused on her love life and sex life, as if limiting her character's dimension, but let us hope that in future eps, they will also focus on her medical genius, which is as important as her being an attractive and love-worthy human being.
The opening voice over of Greys S14x01 was applicable to Arizona:
“The painful irony for doctors is that we often have to make you sicker in order to heal you.

And if all this heals unevenly, we have to re break it. If the scar is too thick we have to scrape it off and create a new wound. We break you down to rebuild you.”

Grey's Anatomy season 14 opened with our Arizona on the brink of breaking…but she was certainly rebuilt at the end of the premiere. Rebuilt, sturdy, and ready to have fun again.  Who knows, maybe there is a possibility of Carina observing Arizona’s brain in the MRI room. Wink. Sorry, I was too affected by the MRI hotness.

Ready for more hotness ;)
